The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon was developed by Nihon Falcom. Publisher: NIS America, Clouded Leopard Entertainment Inc., and Nihon Falcom. Game modes: Single-player.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon picks up as a direct sequel to Trails through Daybreak II, marking a turning point for the long-running Kiseki series and many of the mysteries surrounding the continent of Zemuria. The story brings together characters from across the saga: Van, the Spriggan from Kuro no Kiseki; Kevin, the Grail Knight from Sora no Kiseki; Rean, the Ashen Chevalier from Sen no Kiseki; and Rufus from Hajimari no Kiseki, who together lead a new chapter as C. Epstein's prophecy of the continent's end, known as "X Day," draws closer with the launch of a massive orbal rocket from a military base in the Kunlun Range.
Combat mixes field battles and command battles that switch seamlessly between the two. Characters like Van can trigger an Awakening state by spending Boost Gauge points, gaining a visual transformation along with sharp increases to attack power and speed; breaking objects on the field while awakened refills the gauge and extends the state. Dual Arts add another layer, combining two of the seven orbment elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Time, Space, and Mirage) into spells that cost a large amount of EP but hit far harder than standard arts. The B.L.T.Z. System builds on the Scrum mechanic from the Kuro no Kiseki games: landing attacks, crafts, or arts during the Blitz bonus can trigger a B.L.T.Z. Chain follow-up or B.L.T.Z. Support, which now boosts recovery and support actions as well as offensive ones. Z.O.C. rewards filling a dedicated gauge, in field battles by slowing enemies and hitting harder, and in command battles by letting a character act repeatedly and hold the boost for an extra turn.
Outside the main story, the Grim Garten lets you send a party to reclaim a virtual space seized by the mysterious group Ouroboros. Each domain plays out like a board, with your characters advancing as avatars across a grid and defeating a Guardian at the end to open new areas and services. Progress here unlocks Grim Tokens for decoding the Grimoire tome, which yields Sepith, HOLOWCOREs, Quartz, and accessories, plus Memento Orbs that can be placed on the Pedestal of Remembrance to reveal fragments of Zemuria's history tied to the wider Kiseki story.
Story-driven and quest-linked dungeons round out the campaign, alongside side content built around the same Awakening and Dual Arts systems that carry the main battles.
