Dear Applicant, I am pleased to offer you the role of Apprentice Thaumaturge at Strange Antiquities. So begins your job running a shop for occult objects in Undermere, a seemingly quiet lakeside town that happens to sit at the edge of our world and whatever lies beyond it. Your job, as laid out by proprietor Eli White, is straightforward on paper: keep the shop running, serve the townsfolk's unpredictable arcane needs, and preserve the frayed edge of reality while he attends to other matters.
Daily work means examining, identifying, and cataloguing strange artifacts using observation, deduction, and careful reference to a collection of illustrated tomes, since mistakes here can be costly. Every powerful item you hand over carries a choice: help a customer with their problem, or curse them with something considerably worse, and in a town this small, people remember exactly what you did either way. From time to time you'll need to leave the shop's safety entirely, following hand-drawn maps to investigate rumors or retrieve artifacts from wherever they've ended up, and the building itself holds mysteries even Eli hasn't fully cracked despite a lifetime running the place.
From Rob and John, the two brothers behind Strange Horticulture, Strange Antiquities isn't a direct sequel but shares the same dark, welcoming world, with a few familiar faces showing up alongside an entirely new story. Somewhere in the middle of the artifact-cataloguing and rumor-chasing, Jupiter the shop cat still demands his daily scratch behind the ears, a small, grounding ritual in a job otherwise defined by curiosities that are sometimes best left untouched.
