Scale the Depths builds its entire loop around one simple, satisfying cycle: fish, scale, sell, repeat. Casting a line, hunting down the perfect catch, scaling it with care, and serving it to hungry customers all funds better gear, and better gear opens the door to going deeper, catching stranger fish, and earning more money for the next upgrade. Just one more run, as the saying goes.
Four distinct fishing spots draw inspiration from real places, from Loch Ness to the Outer Banks and even Point Nemo, each with its own atmosphere, gear, fish species, and hidden paths worth tracking down. The deeper the fishing goes, the less it feels like a simple job, and the customers waiting to be served aren't exactly ordinary either: otters, axolotls, and herons share the dock with beings pulled straight from myth and folklore, including figures like Nessie and Kelpie, each with a distinct personality, appetite, and favorite catch. Learning who likes what and delivering accordingly earns a generous tip, while serving badly earns a very different kind of feedback.
Beyond the fishing itself, hidden treasures, messages in bottles, secret passages, and environmental puzzles scattered throughout each location build toward a much larger mystery, with old notes and logs slowly explaining why a tiny robot is out here fishing in the first place. Upgrading rods, hooks, bags, and scaling tools, unlocking new boats and cosmetics, and dressing up that same tiny robot fishmonger all feed back into pushing further into increasingly strange waters, because if you're going to prepare fish for ancient beings from the deep, you might as well look good doing it.
