Rogue Legacy 2 keeps the original's core idea, dying just means your next kid takes over, but builds a deeper game around it. Every child is randomly generated with their own traits and class, so your next heir might be a Ranger who happens to be vegan, and no two family lines end up playing quite the same way. Spending your parents' inheritance to grow the family manor gives each new generation better odds, but how fast or careful you push into the randomly generated Kingdom is entirely up to you.
Fifteen distinct classes each play in different ways: the Ranger fights from Ivy Canopies with poisoned arrows, the Dragon Lancer strikes at high speed while flying, and the Bard leaves nothing but bodies behind through song and dance. Heirlooms function as true metroidvania upgrades, permanently changing how your character interacts with the world rather than just boosting stats, but they have to be found and earned rather than handed over. Traits now come with gold modifiers, so the more debilitating a trait sounds, the bigger the reward for choosing that heir anyway, and Relics add temporary run-changing effects at the cost of your Resolve, all lost together if your current hero dies.
House Rules let you tweak contact damage, global damage and health, or even grant flight for tough platforming sections, giving real control over difficulty without locking anyone out of the experience. New Game+ keeps expanding after the credits roll, layering in new hazards and boss variations across effectively endless replayability, while the expanded lore reveals more about the kingdom's collapse the deeper into repeat playthroughs you go.
