All aboard the express train to riches and fame. Railway Empire 2 hands players an entrepreneur's coat and a small 1830s railway company, tasking them with turning steam engines into the workhorses of a growing economy and expanding into the largest railway company on the continent. Sixty detailed, historic locomotives are available to customize with preferred colors and company initials, connecting cities and rival companies through an ever-expanding network of rail lines, bridges, and tunnels.
Two huge, sprawling maps cover the entirety of the United States and continental Europe respectively, alongside more detailed regional maps focused on specific areas of each continent, giving the game a massive scale to build across. Improved track construction automatically places signals, supports bridges holding up to four tracks, and expands train stations up to eight tracks with new customizable attachments, while the land itself adapts realistically as tracks cross mountains, valleys, and plains.
Six different characters can lead a railway company, each bringing distinct strengths and weaknesses to the role, and players can tackle the 5-chapter campaign across iconic regions of Europe and the US, choose from 14 standalone scenarios, set their own rules in fully customizable Free Play, relax in construction mode, or team up with up to three friends in co-op multiplayer controlling a single shared company. Riding along inside a train lets players watch the landscape rush by from the wagon interior or the driver's compartment of a steam engine, turning even a simple supply run into a moment worth slowing down for.
