A siren sounds. A nuclear bomb is incoming. You have 60 seconds to grab whatever you can and make it to the bunker. MISERY is a co-op roguelite survival game casting players as PMCs guarding a secret research institute in the Republic of Zaslavie, built before the war to study anomalies and artifacts that eventually became the cause of a conflict serious enough to end in nuclear war.
Once the survival begins, each day means venturing into the Exclusion Zone to scavenge procedurally generated locations: abandoned military bases, research stations, radioactive wastelands, and ruined cities, all riddled with secrets and deadly traps where radiation is far from the only threat. Other survivors are willing to kill for food and resources, mutated creatures behave in unpredictable ways, and anomalies scattered throughout the Zone can either help or violently tear a careless scavenger apart, sometimes hiding valuable artifacts distorted with unique effects worth the risk of getting close.
The bunker becomes home base, expandable room by room with generators, crafting stations, food production, and decoration scavenged directly from raids, right down to furniture the Zone's previous occupants clearly won't be needing anymore. After each run, unwinding at the institute's basement bar lets players trade loot and artifacts with a merchant and talk to fellow survivors, though watching vital signs stays essential throughout: hunger, thirst, radiation sickness, and even mental breakdowns from prolonged stress in the Zone can all end a run just as fast as a bandit's bullet. Playable solo or with up to ten players, MISERY frames its bleak survival loop as something better shared, watching each other's backs and sitting by the fire together after a hard day scavenging the ruins.
