A thousand years later, humanity relies on machines, until an empire finds a young woman named Terra with mysterious powers of her own. Final Fantasy VI brings the sixth entry in the series back with completely new 2D graphics and audio, telling its timeless, sweeping story through charming retro visuals rebuilt for modern hardware.
In Narshe, Terra takes part in an Imperial mission to seize a powerful Esper frozen in ice, and a magical reaction between the two of them kills the soldiers accompanying her and knocks Terra unconscious. Waking up with no memory beyond her own name and her rare ability to use magic unaided, she's introduced to the Returners, a resistance organization she agrees to help in their fight against the Empire. The magicite system lets players customize which abilities, spells, and summons each party member learns, and every playable character carries their own distinct story, goals, and fate through this interwoven melodrama.
This pixel remaster updates the iconic character designs originally created by Kazuko Shibuya, who returned to collaborate on the new artwork, alongside a beautifully rearranged soundtrack overseen by original composer Nobuo Uematsu and a reimagined, cinematic opera scene with newly recorded vocals. Modernized UI, auto-battle options, a soundtrack toggle between rearranged and original versions, switchable fonts, and adjustable boost features like disabling random encounters or scaling experience and AP multipliers all give players real control over how classic or convenient the experience feels, alongside supplemental extras like a bestiary, illustration gallery, and music player.
