Dead Rising returns as a full graphical overhaul built on Capcom's RE Engine, rebuilding the original zombie-slaughtering classic with fully renewed character models, environments, and blood effects while adding full voice acting, auto-saves, and a range of quality-of-life improvements on top of gameplay that stays true to the original.

The story starts when the peaceful town of Willamette, Colorado gets put under quarantine by the U.S. Army, and freelance journalist Frank West smells a scoop big enough to sneak into the town's only shopping mall to chase it. What he finds instead is a mall turned into a living hell, packed wall to wall with zombies. Help won't arrive for 72 hours, which leaves Frank on his own to uncover the truth behind the outbreak before that window closes.

Those 72 hours are yours to spend however you want. Regular weapons like guns and baseball bats work fine, but so does nearly any household object you find lying around the mall, since survival here rewards creativity as much as firepower. Rescuing other survivors along the way and trying on new outfits both stay part of the loop too, and it's worth remembering that zombies aren't the only threat roaming the mall: the psychopaths hiding among the survivors can be just as dangerous, if not more so, than the hordes shambling through the food court.

Facial expressions, material textures, and blood spatter all get a real visual upgrade in this remaster, and overwhelming hordes of zombies now fill the screen with completely remade graphics that make Willamette's collapse feel far more visceral than the original release ever managed.
