Ten years after a devastating, unnamed mass event reshaped America's borders and the global balance of power, what's left of the nation's Special Operations forces forms a mysterious unit known only as the Ghosts, leading the fight back against a newly emerged, technologically superior enemy. Call of Duty: Ghosts puts players on the side of a crippled nation fighting not for freedom or liberty in the abstract, but simply to survive, marking the first time in the franchise's history that players take on an underdog role.
The single-player campaign introduces an entirely new cast of characters and locales unlike anything the series had shown before, built around reclaiming a fallen nation in an intensely personal story. Underpinning the whole experience is the franchise's next-gen engine at the time, aiming for stunning immersion while holding a steady 60 frames per second across platforms.
Multiplayer brings the Create-A-Soldier system, letting players shape the physical appearance of their soldier through head, body type, headgear, and equipment choices, including gender selection for the first time in series history, adding up to 20,000 possible combinations. New dynamic maps introduce interactive elements and player-triggered events that reshape the battlefield mid-match, forcing tactics to shift as the environment itself evolves. A new contextual lean system, fluid mantling, and knee slides round out more tactical player movement, while more than 20 new Kill Streaks, including Juggernaut Maniac and the ODIN Strike, and over 30 new weapons, including the debuting Marksman Rifle class, expand the arsenal considerably.
Squads mode lets players build a team of up to six custom soldiers, leveled up through multiplayer, and take them into battle solo or cooperatively, with loadout choices directly shaping AI behavior: hand a squadmate a sniper rifle and they'll play like a sniper, while an SMG loadout turns them into a run-and-gun brawler.
