Alaska Gold Fever puts you in the boots of an ordinary prospector during the 1896 Alaskan gold rush, armed with basic tools and a big dream while thousands of other hopefuls flood north chasing the same fortune. Most will go home empty-handed, and the game builds its entire mining process around historical methods: break rocks, collect ore, and separate gold dust, flakes, and nuggets from the surrounding soil, each type requiring its own refining process before it's worth anything at the bank.
Nine distinct mines wait to be explored, from five quick small mines to three medium mines with branching tunnels and one large multi-level site, each with its own atmosphere and dozens of segments to work through. Mining itself is dangerous: incorrectly placed supports can cause tunnels to collapse, so reinforcing your infrastructure matters as much as the digging itself. Upgraded tools and equipment, enhanced with rare materials and gemstones, improve durability, extraction speed, and your ability to break harder rock as you progress.
Beyond mining, survival means hunting animals for meat, hides, and furs, cooking meals for stamina and cold resistance, and managing extreme temperatures that only get worse the deeper into the wilderness you go. A main storyline and side quests introduce characters like the Pastor along the way, and once you're established, building farms, a hotel, and new mines, then hiring workers to run them, turns simple prospecting into an actual economic empire.
